Host mode

Turn any room into a game show. You need: one laptop, a TV (optional but worth it), and a phone for every player.

Part 1: the host sets the stage

The host runs the game from a laptop. Their screen is what everyone watches.

Step 1: connect to the big screen

Everyone wants to see the questions and the leaderboard.

Option A: HDMI cable

  • Plug the cable into your laptop and your TV.
  • Switch the TV input to the right HDMI port.
  • Mirror your laptop, or drag the browser window to the TV.

Option B: Chromecast (wireless)

  • Open Quizbits in Chrome.
  • Click the three dots (⋮) in the top right.
  • Pick Cast… and choose your TV.

Step 2: create the quiz

  1. Tap Host a game on the homepage.
  2. Type any topic. Examples: "80s hair metal," "capital cities of South America," "funny facts about cats."
  3. Hit Generate. The AI builds a 10-question quiz in seconds.

Step 3: open the lobby

The TV now shows:

  • A QR code (for scanning)
  • A 6-character room code (e.g., ABC123)
  • A list of players as they join

Part 2: the players join

Players use their phones as buzzers and controllers. No app download.

Step 1: join the room

Option A (easiest)

  • Open your phone camera. Scan the QR code on the TV.
  • The game opens in your browser.

Option B

  • Open Quizbits on your phone.
  • Type the 6-character room code from the TV.

Step 2: pick your identity

  1. Enter a name — real or silly.
  2. Pick your avatar — grab one from the host's collection of cartoon characters.
  3. Tap Ready.

Step 3: eyes on the TV

Your phone says "Waiting for host…". Look up. Your avatar just appeared in the lobby.

Part 3: game time

Start

Once everyone's in the lobby, the host taps Start game.

Answer

Questions on the TV. Options on your phone. Tap before the timer runs out. Faster = more points.

Crown the winner

After 10 fast questions, the top score takes it.

Go again

The host can type a new topic right away. ("Okay, now let's do Lord of the Rings.") Fresh round, new quiz.

Ready to play?

Solo or with friends. Either way, three taps to chaos.
