How to Play Quizbits

Two ways to play: challenge yourself solo or host a multiplayer game show for friends!

Solo Mode

Play by yourself on any device. Perfect for quick brain training or killing time.

Host Mode

Turn your TV into a game show. Friends play on their phones as controllers.

Solo Mode

Just you vs. the quiz. No setup, no friends required, no TV needed. Play on your phone, tablet, or computer.

How to Play Solo

Click "Play Solo" on the homepage
No account needed to start, but signing up lets you save your high scores.

Choose your quiz topic
Type any topic you can imagine, or hit "Surprise Me" for a random challenge. Adjust the difficulty slider if you want an easier or harder quiz.

Answer 10 questions
Each question has a timer. Faster answers earn more points. See your score update in real-time as you play.

See your results and share
Compare your score, share your results with friends, or play again with a new topic.

Host Mode (Multiplayer)

Turn any room into a game show. You need: 1 Laptop (Host), a TV (optional but recommended), and Smartphones for every player.

Part 1: The Host (Set the Stage)

The "Host" is the person running the game on a laptop. Their screen is what everyone watches.

Step 1: Connect to the Big Screen

For the best experience, everyone should be able to see the questions and leaderboard. Connect your laptop to a TV:

Option A: HDMI Cable

Plug one end of an HDMI cable into your laptop and the other into your TV
Use your TV remote to change the "Input" or "Source" to the correct HDMI port
Ensure your laptop screen is "Mirrored" or drag the browser window to the TV screen

Option B: Chromecast (Wireless)

Open Quizbits in the Google Chrome browser
Click the three dots (⋮) in the top right corner of Chrome
Select "Cast..." and choose your TV from the list

Step 2: Create the Quiz

Click "Host a Game" on the homepage
The Magic Step: Type in any topic you want
- Examples: "80s Hair Metal Bands," "Capital Cities of South America," or "Funny Facts About Cats"
Hit Generate. Our AI will instantly build a unique 10-question challenge just for you

Step 3: Open the Lobby

Once the quiz is ready, you will see a Lobby Screen on the TV. This screen displays:

A QR Code (for scanning)
A 6-character Room Code (e.g., ABC123)
A list of players as they join

Part 2: The Players (Join the Fun)

Players use their own phones as their buzzer and controller. No app download required!

Step 1: Join the Room

Option A (Easiest):

Open your phone camera and scan the QR Code on the TV screen. It will open the game directly in your browser.

Option B:

Go to Quizbits (or your URL) and enter the 6-character Room Code displayed on the TV.

Step 2: Create Your Identity

Once you're connected, it's time to show off your style:

Enter Your Name: Use your real name or a fun nickname
Choose Your Avatar: Pick from the host's collection of unique AI-generated cartoon avatars with wacky expressions
Tap "Ready!"

Step 3: Eyes on the TV!

Your phone will now say "Waiting for Host...". Look up at the TV! You should see your avatar pop up in the lobby.

Part 3: Game Time!

Start:

Once all players are in the lobby, the Host clicks "Start Game."

Answer:

Questions appear on the TV. Options appear on your phone. Tap the correct answer before the timer runs out!

Faster answers = More points!

The Micro-Quiz:

After 10 fast-paced questions, the winner is crowned.

Go Again:

The Host can instantly type a new topic (e.g., "Okay, now let's do The Lord of the Rings") to start a fresh round immediately.
