Chromecast setup

Cast to the TV. Everyone answers on their phones. Your TV is the game board. Their phones are the buzzers.

What you need

Chromecast device

Any Chromecast, Chromecast with Google TV, or Android TV.

Same WiFi

Phone/laptop and Chromecast on the same network.

Chrome browser

Chrome on Android, laptop, or Chromebook. Safari works via AirPlay.

Everyone's phones

One phone per player. No app. Just a browser.

How it works

Quizbits has a TV app built for Chromecast. When you cast, the TV becomes the game board. It shows:

  • Questions and answers — large and readable
  • Countdown timer per question
  • Live leaderboard between rounds
  • Player avatars and scores
  • QR code for joining before the game starts

Step-by-step setup

    Get Chromecast ready

    Turn on the TV. Switch to the Chromecast input. Confirm it's on the same WiFi as your phone.

    Open Quizbits in Chrome

    Go to quizbits.app/host in Chrome on your phone or laptop. Sign in.
  3. 3

    Pick or build a quiz

    Choose one from your library. Or let AI generate a new one on any topic. You land in the waiting room.
  4. 4

    Tap the Cast button

    Look for the cast icon — rectangle with WiFi waves. Tap it to see nearby devices.
  5. 5

    Select your TV

    Pick the Chromecast you want. Quizbits appears on the TV within seconds.
  6. 6

    Players join via QR

    The TV shows a big QR code and room code. Players scan with their phone camera. No app.
  7. 7

    Start the game

    Everyone in? Tap Start. Questions on the TV. Answers on the phones. You control the pace.

Troubleshooting

Cast button missing?

  • Use Chrome. Not Safari. Not Firefox.
  • Phone and Chromecast on the same WiFi.
  • Refresh the page.
  • Restart the Chromecast.

Connection dropping?

  • Move closer to the router.
  • Knock some devices off the network.
  • Switch to 5GHz WiFi if you can.
  • Restart the router.

TV showing the wrong thing?

  • You want the Quizbits cast option. Not screen mirroring.
  • Wait a few seconds for the connection.
  • Disconnect and reconnect.

On an iPhone?

  • Chrome on iPhone doesn't cast.
  • Option 1: use a laptop with Chrome.
  • Option 2: AirPlay to an Apple TV.
  • Option 3: HDMI cable to the TV.
